Painter on a ladder at the window trim of a navy house

Painting

The work

New England weather is hard on paint. Exterior work starts with scraping, washing, repairing and priming so the new coat has something solid to hold onto, and the finish goes on when the conditions are right.

What the work covers

  • Siding, trim and fascia
  • Doors, shutters and railings
  • Scraping, washing and sanding
  • Spot priming and wood repair
  • Caulking and sealing joints
Hands marking a board with a pencil, tape measure and level
Hands chiseling rotted wood out of a window sill

Process

  1. 1

    Inspect

We check siding, trim and corners for peeling, rot and failed caulk.

  2. 2

    Prepare

Wash, scrape and sand. Repair or replace damaged wood before anything is painted.

  3. 3

    Prime and caulk

Bare wood is primed and joints are sealed so water stays out.

  4. 4

    Finish coats

Applied in suitable weather, with clean lines at trim, windows and doors.

Estimate

We do not quote from a photo or a price list. We look at the work, then write up the estimate. These are the things that move it.

  • House size and number of storeys
  • Siding type and condition
  • Amount of scraping and wood repair
  • Trim, shutters, doors and railings
  • Access and weather window

FAQ

When is the right time to paint a house exterior?

Paint needs dry weather and moderate temperatures to cure properly. We plan the schedule around the weather rather than forcing a date.

Will you fix rotted wood before painting?

Yes. Painting over damaged wood only hides the problem for a season, so repair comes first.

Does exterior painting include trim and doors?

It can. Tell us which parts of the house you want included and we write the estimate that way.

How do I get an estimate for exterior painting?

Send the estimate request on this site. We reply to arrange a visit, look at the work in person, and then write up the estimate. There is no commitment to hire us.

Send a few details and we will get back to you to set up a visit. The estimate is free and carries no commitment.
